Past Events

Pizza Evening - The Pizza Evening is planned to be organized regularly throughout the term to connect people in the department better. This event usually takes place in the cafe area and has attracted so many people in the department that we once had to place orders two times! That means -- always come early if you would like to enjoy free pizza with drinks!

Wine Tasting Night - We invited an external connoisseur to the department, who brought six wines, each paired with a particular food. The event took place in the Biochemistry Cafe.

Wine Tasting Night - The connoisseur detailed the history and origin of each wine and described their taste and their pairing with food. Before the tasting, he also introduced the participating members of the Department to ways of appreciating wines.

Weekly Welfare Tea - We offer weekly welfare tea every Friday at 3 PM and invite everyone to take a short break from their lab work with free beverages and snacks.

Coffee Socials - Coffee socials are a great way to mingle whilst treating yourself to delicious brunch. They are hosted in the atrium, usually monthly-bimonthly, and are open to all students in the department.

Coffee Socials - We have organised several coffee socials so far, and they have been a delicious way to mingle with students from other labs with pastries and tea/coffee! A great wake-me-up in the morning.

Welfare Walk - In case you are feeling a bit overwhelmed with lab work, we organise these welfare walks to give a refreshing break for your mental and physical health. We stroll through the scenic University Parks for about an hour. It's the perfect opportunity to take a breather and enjoy some friendly company!

Quiz Night/Virtual Pub Quiz - We hosted a pub quiz at the cafe. Questions were written by our own co-presidents, and the turnout was fantastic, with great teams working together with their thinking caps on. A night of fun with food, drinks and prizes, complete with a PA system! We also organized a virtual pub quiz, open to all, with great prizes and fun for everyone to enjoy, even during lockdown!

Boardgames Night - These are organised regularly and take place in the cafe area. These Friday nights are a great gathering activity for your lab group and friends. We offer a fantastic selection of board games, drinks, pizza and sweet treats. Even better, we also ask you to make suggestions of new games so that we can increase our collection with games you want.

Summer Party 2019 - The OUBS organised a successful food competition at the departmental Summer Party in July 2019. We had a vote for the three best dishes, where the winners took home some fantastic prizes! Beautiful day with music, food and games, organised in collaboration the departmental Culture Committee.
